WA: Man fighting for life after electric shock
A 21-year-old man is fighting for his life after receiving burns to 50 per cent ofhis body as he tried to climb an electrified security fence in Perth.
The man was injured trying to scale the perimeter fence of a Western Power substationin the Perth suburb of Edgewater about 1.30am (WST).
Police say his clothes were on fire when security officers arrived at the scene.
He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital suffering severe shock, and is now in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, a sub-contractor has had his leg amputated below the knee after sufferingan electric shock in the northern suburb of Marangaroo yesterday.
His 33-year-old colleague was killed in the same incident.
The injured man and his dead colleague had been installing metal power poles in a newsubdivision when a pole touched overhead powerlines, causing a surge of 132,000 voltsof electricity.
WorkSafe is investigating the incident.
A Royal Perth Hospital spokeswoman says the injured man is in a stable condition.
